Blue

One day soon

I’ll count the layers

in an onion.

Won’t you stay with me?

If you know what I mean

avocado green

We’ll watch the bees

alfalfa yellow

Sometimes you’ve seen

that sometimes

you need to be

blue, haven’t you?

Fire

It dances it swirls,
in a circular motion
Hypnotic it’s power,
like a magic potion
It relaxes and warms you
With its soft glow
Sitting for hours
watching the colours flow
It draws the curious closer,
too close to pull back
Silently surrounding them,
turning them charcoal black
Yellow, orange and red
The colours dance in my head
Purple, blue and green
And every colour in between
I crouch a little closer,
to get a better view
A snap, a crackle and a pop,
the music of the hue
I love the woodsy smell,
it's the essence of home
We take it for granted though
That’s really too bad
For as we sleep it slowly dies out
And once again
Just briefly
We lose the first comfort we ever had.

Colour

Orange burns
Like a squirt in the eye
Green wilts
Before going dry
Red hurts
Sometimes at least
Blue soothes
The wound and the crease
Yellow aches
Grey sums them up
It’s the colour I feel.
